Allen Park, Mich. - The Detroit Lions announced today that they have signed unrestricted free agent CB Dante Wesley to a two-year deal. Additional contract terms were not disclosed.
Biography
PRO: Signed with Detroit as an unrestricted free agent April 6, 2010 after spending the previous season with Carolina primarily on special teams. Wesley closed out 2009 with 8 special teams stops, 6 tackles (5 solo), 1.0 sack and 4 pass defenses through 15 games played. In 2008, Wesley saw action in all 16 games for the Panthers and tied for third on the team with 11 special teams tackles, a forced fumble and 2 fumble recoveries, including one for a touchdown. Signed as an unrestricted free agent by Chicago March 16, 2006 and saw action in 13 games for the Bears before being traded to New England August 7, 2007 in exchange for a 2008 undisclosed draft choice. Re-signed as a free agent with Carolina September 3, 2007 after being released by New England prior to the start of the regular season. Originally selected by the Panthers in the fourth round (100th overall) of the 2002 NFL Draft.
•Member of a Carolina punt coverage unit that ranked fifth in the NFL in opponent punt return average in 2005 and helped punter Jason Baker lead the NFL in net punting average.
•Contributed to Carolina kick coverage unit that fnished fifth in the NFL in opponent kick-off return average in 2003.
