The Lions practiced in shorts on the outdoor fields today at the team’s headquarters and practice facility in Allen Park.
Rookie RB Jahvid Best has been named NFL Offensive Rookie of the Month for the month of September. Best started all three games in September and led NFL rookies with 307 total yards from scrimmage (183 receiving and 124 rushing) as well as scoring a league-best five touchdowns (four rushing, one receiving). His 154 receiving yards in Week 2 (vs. Philadelphia, 9/19) are the most by a rookie running back in a game in the Super Bowl era. Best is the first Lion to earn NFL Offensive Rookie of the Month honors since 2004 when both wide receiver Roy Williams (September) and running back Kevin Jones (December) were honored. The Lions announced today that they have signed S Dante Wesley and released S Randy Phillips.
The following players have been listed on the Detroit Lions’ Injury Report: RB Jahvid Best (toe), RB Aaron Brown (finger), WR Nate Burleson (ankle), DT Sammie Hill (ankle), LB DeAndre Levy (groin) and QB Matthew Stafford (right shoulder) did not practice. DE Cliff Avril (knee/finger), S C.C. Brown (forearm), S Louis Delmas (groin/biceps/calf) and DE Kyle Vanden Bosch (back) were limited in practice today. LB Zack Follett (concussion), CB Chris Houston (knee), LB Landon Johnson (neck) and G Stephen Peterman (foot) had full participation in practice. Follett, Houston, Johnson and Peterman were upgraded to full practice; Delmas was upgraded to limited practice and Vanden Bosch was added to the injury report today.
The following players were listed on the Green Bay Packers’ Injury Report today: LB Brandon Chillar (shoulder) and S Nick Collins (knee) did not practice and LB Brady Poppinga (hamstring) and CB Sam Shields (calf) were limited in practice. T Chad Clifton (knee), DE Cullen Jenkins (hand), LB Brad Jones (knee), S Derrick Martin (ankle) and DE Mike Neal (rib), S Charlie Peprah (quadriceps) and CB Charles Woodson (toe) had full participation in practice. Collins was downgraded to no practice; Clifton, Peprah and Woodson were upgraded to full practice and Poppinga and Shields were added to the Packers’ injury report today.
The Detroit Lions will travel to Green Bay to face the division rival Packers at Lambeau Field on Sunday, October 3 at 1 p.m. The Lions will be looking to get on track after a 24-10 loss at Minnesota and the Packers will be trying rebound after a last second 20-17 loss at Chicago on Monday Night Football.
